This
summer, we were fortunate to assemble our second school basketball
team, for players age 12 and under. We participated in a league
at the Golden Strip YMCA, and competed twice per week against
other tough teams from the Y.
We
concluded the summer season with our second consecutive win
on August 10. Ivan Curto led the Lions at point guard, and
had help with scoring and rebounding from Kyle and Evan Alexander.
John Mark Whitman and Alexa Leopold made great contributions
at their wing positions by frequently hitting outside jump
shots. Phil VanOsdol, a rising 4th grader, showed tremendous
potential throughout the year as well. Phil will no doubt
be the team leader for 10-and-Unders this winter.
Without
the contributions and dedication of our younger players, we
would not have been able to facilitate a team. We had 4 rising
3rd graders participate on the team this summer, as well as
a rising Kindergartner. James Martzin, Nathan Cousins, Hamilton
Martin, and Brayden Leopold were our 8 year olds on the team
. Andrew Robison (age 5) sparked the crowd with hustle and
enthusiasm as an alternate player in 2 game appearances when
attendance was low.
